Travis County Commissioners Court
June 15, 2010

Of Interest in Court This Week:

I.  Travis County Central Campus Master Plan
The Court received a briefing on the Community Outreach listening sessions findings for the Travis County Central Campus Master Plan.  The questions asked each group were:

  1. Best & worst attributes of Central Campus?
  2. Current problems with Central Campus facilities?
  3. Major concerns about County’s development downtown?
  4. Top priorities for the Plan?
  5. One key issue that the Plan should consider?

Several common threads ran through the feedback received:

  1. Downtown Campus not cohesive
  2. No private meeting spaces
  3. No parking
  4. Courts inadequate
  5. Facilities are outdated and unattractive; Lack of pride in facilities; old, worn and ugly buildings;  need to demonstrate civic pride
  6. Poor identity, streetscape and feel:  need to implement design standards
  7. Need more green space and pedestrian friendly environment
  8. Lack of transportation options
  9. Wayfinding is an issue; not visitor-friendly
  10. Facilities should reflect values of Austin/Travis County

II. Waller Creek District Master Plan
The Court also received an update from Councilmember Cole and several City of Austin staff on the current draft plan for the Waller Creek District Master Plan in which the County has partnered with the City of Austin.  The Plan is set to be voted on by the City of Austin on June 24th.  If you are not familiar with this project, it is exciting and you should check it out at:  www.wallercreekplan.org
